She also appeared in the T.V. movie "J.T." (1969), which starred Kevin Hooks, the dope dealer in "A Hero Ain't Nothin' But a Sandwich." Also, veteran actor Glynn Turman appeared as the caring teacher in the film.
In a time when Hollywood saturated the market with blaxploitation movies, "A Hero Ain't Nothin' But a Sandwich" offered an alternative type of film about real-life drama. The movie has fine performances by the cast, and some of the drug scenes are haunting. But it's a film that is more than overcoming addiction. It is also about love and perseverance when a person finds themself alone and unable to deal with their reality. I highly recommend this movie.
